RCM&D’s 18th Annual Regatta Exceeds Fundraising Goal

Sailing Event Raises $64,755 for Area Nonprofits - Partners in Care Maryland, CASA and Elk Hill

Towson, MD - RCM&D announced their 18th Annual Regatta raised $64,755 for area nonprofits - Partners in Care Maryland, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) and Elk Hill. The amount raised surpassed the original goal of $60,000. The sailing event was held on September 23, 2011 at the Downtown Sailing Center in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor.

“All three beneficiaries for this year’s RCM&D Regatta help meet the needs of some of the most vulnerable members of our society,” said RCM&D President Robert Cawley. “We are proud to support these organizations with a financial donation and to raise awareness of their mission via the Regatta.”

Since its inception 18 years ago, the event has raised $474,000. Each year, the Regatta benefits nonprofits in the communities served by RCM&D’s seven regional offices located throughout the mid-Atlantic.

An experienced sailor from RCM&D or the Downtown Sailing Center captained each of the boats in this year’s Regatta to show invited guests, RCM&D team members and representatives from the nonprofit groups the basics of sailing. A series of fun races was held throughout the afternoon and an awards ceremony, food and music rounded out the day.

More than three inches of rain fell in the Baltimore area the day of the event, but Regatta participants remained enthusiastic and in good spirits.

“We were amazed by the support from RCM&D employees and our sponsors in the weeks leading up to the event and everyone really enjoyed themselves on the day of the Regatta despite the weather,” said Marissa Schott, a Senior Claims Adjuster at RCM&D and Chair of the Regatta Committee.
