After the news this week of the “reworked NCAA concussion settlement,” more questions come into play regarding the handling of concussions endured by collegiate athletes. The NCAA is now requiring all institutions to strengthen concussion management and return-to-play guidelines.
It is troubling to me as to why emphasis is being placed on concussion management, rather than preventative measures. Dealing with concussions “after the fact,” leads to more settlements, scrutiny and increased insurance rates for higher education institutions.
