Every year, RCM&D chooses well-deserving local nonprofit organizations to be the recipients of our year-round fundraising and volunteer initiatives. The result of these endeavors is commemorated during our annual Regatta event, a delightful waterfront festivity hosted at the picturesque Inner Harbor in Baltimore. Mark your calendars for this year’s occasion on Friday, September 15. As we approach this year’s celebration, we will shine a spotlight on our chosen beneficiaries, showcasing the incredible impact they make within our communities on a daily basis.
About One Love Foundation
One Love Foundation empowers young people by providing them with tools and resources to recognize signs of healthy and unhealthy relationships. The organization was founded in 2010 to honor the unnecessary and tragic death of Yeardley Love, a University of Virginia student who tragically lost her life as a result of relationship violence. One Love works to foster conversations about healthy relationships, consent, communication, and the prevention of domestic violence.
One Conversation at a Time
Abusive relationships touch the lives of many, with statistics showing that more than a third of women and men, and over half of transgender or non-binary individuals will face such a situation. Unfortunately, only 33% of teens who were in an abusive relationship ever told anyone about the abuse.
One Love is helping to change these statistics around relationship abuse one conversation at a time. Through compelling, relatable films and honest conversations around healthy and unhealthy relationship behaviors, One Love is making a true impact in the community at large. Over 2,400,000 people have been reached through a One Love educational workshop and over 100 million people have been reached online through educational video content. Of those that participated, 96% said they would recommend One Love workshops to a friend.
By engaging participants in discussions and activities that highlight the signs of unhealthy relationships, the foundation has helped increase awareness about the issue of relationship violence and its early warning signs. In doing so, One Love has helped to change societal norms and attitudes that contribute to relationship violence, and therefore contributed to the prevention of those instances.
One Love in the Community
More for Love
Move for Love stands as the One Love Foundation’s grandest community gathering, uniting people in support of their noble cause for fostering healthier relationships. In Partnership with the Baltimore Ravens, the 2023 event consisted of an engaging run/walk at the Baltimore Zoo. Nearly 900 members of the One Love community took part in all the fun!
Tee Up for One Love
Join One Love on October 9, 2023 as they host their annual Tee Up for One Love event at the Green Spring Valley Hunt Club. October is National Domestic Violence Awareness month, so there is no better time to help end abuse by supporting One Love’s relationship health education. This year’s festivities include a pickle ball tournament, morning access to the driving range and putting green, lunch, an 18-hole round scramble with cart, and cocktail reception with open bar, passed bites, and food stations.
Support of Tee Up for One Love ensures that the organization can continue developing and delivering the tools and resources that help young people see the signs of unhealthy relationships before they escalate to abuse.
How the RCM&D Regatta will Help
Funding from the RCM&D Regatta will support One Love Foundation’s basketball tournament to expand engagement and programming in Baltimore City public schools. The tournament, along with pre-events, will encourage students to create and join One Love Clubs, helping to educate them on healthy relationships and prevent relationship abuse. The organization hopes to diversify its student ambassadors by expanding its involvement in youth sports.
