Providing Comfort, Connection and Care: Ulman Foundation

Each year, RCM&D chooses well-deserving local nonprofit organizations to be the recipients of our year-round fundraising and volunteer initiatives. The result of these endeavors is commemorated during our annual Regatta event, a delightful waterfront celebration hosted at the Inner Harbor in Baltimore. Mark your calendars for this year’s event on Friday, September 12.

As we approach this year’s festivities, we are proud to shine a spotlight on one of our 2025 beneficiaries: the Ulman Foundation, an organization making a powerful impact on the lives of young adults affected by cancer.

About Ulman Foundation & Ulman House

For more than 25 years, Ulman Foundation has been addressing the unique challenges faced by young adults diagnosed with cancer. This age group faces disruptions due to education, careers, relationships and independence. Ulman steps in to provide not only practical resources but also a sense of belonging and purpose.

At the heart of their work is Ulman House, a free home-away-from-home in Baltimore for young adult cancer patients and their caregivers, providing comfort, community and convenience during treatment. Funds raised through the RCM&D Regatta will help cover essential expenses such as utilities, travel assistance and household supplies, ensuring patients can focus on healing without the added burden of financial stress.

Comprehensive Support Services

Ulman Foundation’s programs go beyond treatment to support someone physically, emotionally and socially.

  • Adolescent & Young Adult Navigation: One-on-one guidance and support from trained navigators who help patients understand their diagnosis, navigate treatment and make informed decisions throughout their cancer journey.
  • Cancer to 5K: A 12-week training program that empowers survivors to regain strength and confidence by completing a 5K race, supported by volunteer coaches and teammates.
  • Community Engagement: From peer support groups to wellness activities and social events, Ulman fosters connection and belonging among young adults who often feel isolated during treatment.
  • Travel & Logistics Assistance: Support with transportation, lodging and other logistical challenges that can prevent patients from accessing the care they need.

Together, these services form a holistic support system that helps young adults not just survive cancer but live fully in spite of it.

Measuring Impact: Why it Matters

Ulman Foundation’s work is rooted in real, measurable impact.

RCM&D at Ulman House

On July 23, the RCM&D team had the privilege of spending an evening at Ulman House preparing and serving dinner for the residents. This hands-on opportunity allowed us to connect directly with the young adults and caregivers staying at the house, offering a warm meal and a sense of comfort and community.

It was a meaningful experience that deepened our appreciation for the vital role Ulman Foundation plays in supporting patients during their treatment journey. We’re grateful for the chance to contribute in a small but heartfelt way.
