Teens Seize the Opportunity for Success – Thanks to Innovative Program at Cristo Rey

Congratulations to James Lambert, Salutatorian of the Cristo Rey Jesuit High School class of 2012!  James has worked as an Intern in RCM&D’s Commercial Division for the past two years as part of Cristo Rey Jesuit’s innovative work-study program.  Through rigorous academics and a focus on character and leadership development, Cristo Rey Jesuit High School is opening doors for Baltimore City students like James.

With charisma, humility and humor, James delivered a heartfelt Salutatorian speech at Graduation exercises last Saturday. James is among the second graduating class at the Cristo Rey School in Baltimore, and for the second year in a row, 100% of Cristo Rey Graduates have been accepted into college. James Lambert, who remarkably has not missed a single day of school (or work) since the first grade, will be attending Loyola University, having earned a full scholarship. While he plans to study engineering, James will continue his work at RCM&D. “James is mature and well spoken,” said his RCM&D mentor Donna Fowler, “and we’re very proud of his achievements.”

Ginell McLean is another bright star in the Cristo Rey-RCM&D partnership. Ginnell came to RCM&D as a high school freshman in our SISCO claims division.  Ginnell has now completed her first year at Stevenson University and is returning to SISCO for the summer. “I’m so glad to have Ginell back,” said Claims Supervisor Denise Schmidt. “She’s a delightful person and a dedicated worker.  She was just a freshman when she first came to SISCO, yet she embraced the challenge with a willingness and eagerness to learn. She’s been a great success and became part of the SISCO family.”

Ginnell and her supervisor Denise Schmidt were featured in a Baltimore Sun article highlighting Cristo Rey’s workplace partnerships. Through partnership with businesses, Cristo Rey makes private, college preparatory education affordable while students gain valuable experience and perspective on professional life.

The Cristo Rey Network of 24 schools nationwide is clear about its mission: college success for young people in urban areas with limited educational options. True to this mission, Cristo Rey Jesuit High School is transforming lives and opening doors for students in Baltimore City.

RCM&D is proud to partner with the Cristo Rey Jesuit High School, and wish Ginnell, James and the Cristo Rey class of 2012 continued success!
