Zika Virus: Legal Issues for Employers

The following countries recently issued a warning against travel to Singapore if you are pregnant: the United States, Australia, Taiwan and South Korea.  Unfortunately, the Zika virus continues to be a prevalent concern in Singapore with 82 cases reported.  It is critical to understand that the Zika virus is not only a risk pregnant women, but also for women and men who wish to start a family and for those with underlying health issues. The full scope of this disease is just beginning to be understood.  Therefore, if you are an employer, it is important to take seriously the concerns your employees may have about work-related travel. Additionally, anyone who travels abroad needs to have a travel insurance policy that is comprehensive and includes protection against all specific risks associated with their destination.
