Baltimore, Md. – RCM&D, a top independent insurance advisory firm, announced today that Denise Shope RN, MHSA, ARM, CPHRM, FASHRM has been chosen as President-Elect of the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management (ASHRM) by the association’s membership. Ms. Shope was one of two candidates selected for the position by the ASHRM Nominating Committee and received a majority of votes during the at-large election. Ms. Shope will be sworn in at the ASHRM Annual Business Meeting on October 18 in Seattle, Washington. Her term as President-Elect will begin on January 1, 2018.
“I am excited to have been selected by the ASHRM nominating committee and elected by the membership to serve as the association’s President-Elect,” said Shope. “I look forward to working with the rest of the ASHRM leadership to develop innovative solutions to promote effective risk management strategies that ultimately improve patient care practices, preserve financial resources and maintain safe work environments.”
With more than 30 years of healthcare experience and nearly 25 years of specialized risk management, quality improvement and patient safety experience, Ms. Shope is a nationally recognized healthcare risk management professional. She has presented about various patient safety and risk management topics on a national level and currently sits on several national committees and task forces for advancing the profession and mission of patient safety and healthcare enterprise risk management. Ms. Shope has been actively involved in ASHRM and its state chapters. She is currently serving as the President of the Pennsylvania Association of Health Care Risk Management (PASHRM) and is a former member of the ASHRM Board of Directors.
Ms. Shope has been a Risk Management Consultant within RCM&D’s Healthcare Division since 2008. In this role, she is responsible for leading the firm’s Healthcare Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) service line. “Denise is a dedicated professional with a keen insight into the challenges and risks of the healthcare industry,” said Robert Cawley, President/COO of RCM&D. “I congratulate her on this outstanding achievement and am confident she will lead ASHRM to new heights.”
Prior to joining RCM&D, Denise began her career as a staff nurse at Geisinger Medical Center where she spent 15 years advancing to the position of Risk Manager. After several years at PHICO Insurance Company as a Risk and Safety Consultant, Denise returned to Geisinger as Director of Performance Improvement and Risk Management, and was later appointed as the System’s Patient Safety Officer.
