Richmond, Virginia – RCM&D’s Education Practice partnered with the Council of Independent Colleges in Virginia (CICV) to present the seventh annual Higher Education Risk Management Conference. The conference took place on November 29 and 30 at the Boar’s Head Inn located in Charlottesville, Virginia. James Shewey, RCM&D’s Education Practice Leader, organized the conference, which was attended by the executive leaders of CICV member institutions, along with its President Robert Lambeth.
The two-day conference included dynamic presentations from top regional business and insurance partners, including RCM&D, Saul Ewing, the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute, United Educators, Chubb and Travelers. The sessions provided risk management expertise on current trends and future impacts for contract exculpatory clauses, Title IX, distracted driving, study abroad, minors on campus, post-injury workers’ compensation claims and legal strategies for dealing with higher education financial challenges.
“This conference provides a collaborative forum to learn and discuss the critical issues that impact each of our member institution’s community and economic stability,” stated Lambeth. “Our partnership with RCM&D allows us to provide the latest research in areas of risk management, insurance, operations and policy to help keep our members informed and provide the support they need to further their initiatives.”
CICV is a nonprofit organization founded in 1971 with 28 current members, all of which are independent colleges and universities located in Virginia. The organization provides legislative advocacy, professional development, research and data, and collaborative business opportunities to its member institutions.
RCM&D partnered with CICV in 2012 to form the Property & Casualty Insurance Group Purchase Program. This exclusive program is designed to meet the needs of CICV members while reducing insurance costs, providing enhanced coverage, and offering safety and risk management best practices tailored to each institution. Mr. Shewey commented, “Bringing our clients together in this forum enhances collaboration and the sharing of best practices. This unique opportunity to leverage economies of scale and knowledge is a driving force for the success of the program.”
The program participants benefit from comprehensive and cost-effective products and services, including property and casualty, management liability and customized risk management consulting. The 2018 data shows that the participants have collectively realized in excess of $3 million in insurance savings, along with increased market stability, reduced rate volatility, superior risk consulting and safety support, and access to premier insurance companies.
