BALTIMORE, MD – RCM&D, one of the nation’s largest independent risk management, insurance and employee benefits firms has announced multiple honorees for the 2022 Risk & Insurance® Power Broker® Awards.
Education Practice Leader, James Shewey, was awarded the top honor in the Education category for his work to help schools tackle complex challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. Shewey was also honored for the same award in 2018.
According the Risk & Insurance awards, “James Shewey’s dedicated and creative approach to building insurance pools for his clients is what makes him a top-notch broker and earned him this 2022 Education Power Broker award.” Amy McNamer, executive director for AISGW, said, “[James] understands the issues facing our schools at a pretty deep level. He’s taken a lot of burden off of the association to get it going.”
James joined RCM&D in 2006 as a Client Executive and quickly established himself in the education industry. He currently serves as the firm’s Education Practice Leader and in 2020, he was named Market Leader for RCM&D’s Richmond, Virginia office. He is also a member of the United Educators’ Broker Advisory Committee, a very limited group of key brokers who work to drive meaningful policy changes and develop new resources. “James is an excellent representation of what our firm stands for,” said Bob Cawley, CEO of RCM&D. “Our number one goal is to provide best-in-class service that goes above and beyond our clients’ expectations with a personable, independent attitude. Through all of the challenges and hardships brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, James has been a guide his clients can count on.”
RCM&D’s Maria Lobo earned a Finalist designation in the Construction category for her work with RCM&D’s Enterprise Contractual Risk Management program. A rising star in the firm’s Commercial Lines division, Maria joined RCM&D in 2019. She possesses a wealth of knowledge in her field, with over 15 years of both risk management and engineering experience.
“Maria is fiercely devoted to providing innovative solutions for her clients,” said Matt Kahn, RCM&D Commercial Lines Director. “In this business, building and diversifying your skillset is a must. Maria is constantly searching for new ways to help her clients thrive, an embodiment of what this recognition is all about.”
The Risk & Insurance® Power Broker® Awards are an annual selection of the most effective and influential commercial insurance brokers. The Power Broker® designation is based on nominations provided by brokers and risk managers and is judged based on the quality of the application and on references by risk managers in each industry sector. Hundreds of risk managers and risk executives are interviewed in the process of identifying and soliciting, evaluating and judging the nominees. Brokers are judged primarily on their creativity in solving risk-related problems during the previous year, their demonstrated industry knowledge and their high level of client service.
