RCM&D Teams Up for a National Service Event with Local Roots

Baltimore, Maryland – On Saturday April 29, 2017, more than 40 volunteers joined the RCM&D team to participate in National Rebuilding Day, the signature event of Rebuilding Together.  Across the United States on the last Saturday of April, Rebuilding Together affiliates and volunteers team up to revitalize neighborhoods by providing a variety of home repairs. In the Baltimore community, the Rebuilding Together affiliate hosted volunteers to repair 11 homes in Turner Station, a neighborhood with historical roots dating back to 1885.

RCM&D is a long-time participant of the program, adopting a home each year to provide support, awareness of the initiative and to give employees a meaningful volunteer opportunity in the community.  “In addition to our employee engagement, we recruited several clients and partners to join the RCM&D team (Root Companies, JC Porter, TEI, Ligon & Ligon, Inc., James Rowe Painting, Lerch Brothers Landscaping and Milway Plumbing). These organizations provided materials and construction crews to work on the house for several weeks in advance of the event day.  They assessed and committed to multiple large-scale renovation projects to ensure the home was properly repaired,” commented Stephen Mainello, RCM&D Construction and Surety Practice Leader and Rebuilding Day Team Captain.  “We are grateful for the time and resources that our colleagues and clients donated to help shape this neighborhood back to a healthy environment.”

On Rebuilding Day, the RCM&D team was one of the largest working in the Turner Station neighborhood. The team completed several projects, including painting, refinishing furniture, repairing internal and external structures and planting fruit and vegetable gardens. “We had an amazing group, who worked extra hard to provide the homeowner with a safe and enjoyable space,” stated Katie Caple, RCM&D Vice President of Corporate Outreach and Rebuilding Day Team Captain.  “The homeowner was overjoyed to be able to once again garden and host family and friends for picnics and special gatherings.”
